JAKARTA (DKI), media3.id – The Constitutional Court’s ruling affirming that Jakarta remains the nation’s capital. Decision No. 71/PUU-XXIV/2026 was read out on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and rejected the applicant’s petition in its entirety.
The norm of Article 2 paragraph (1) of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning DKI Jakarta was tested together with Article 39 paragraph (1) of Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the IKN.

“We respects the entire constitutional process at the Constitutional Court. The development of the new capital city would proceed according to the stages established by the government. Basic infrastructure, government zones, business ecosystems, and public services would continue as originally scheduled,” said Troy Pantouw, the National Capital Authority spokesperson, Friday (15/5/2026).

This Constitutional Court ruling is a clarification of existing norms, not a change in policy direction for the capital relocation. The government is still considering the option of formally scheduling the relocation through a forthcoming presidential decree.• (Shaleh Rudianto media3)
